Caspar UkeFest
Second Annual Caspar UkeFest on April 27 at Caspar Community Center

An all-day ukulele festival is planned for Saturday, April 27, when Mendocino Stories and Music Series joins The Caspar Community to celebrate the ukulele as a friendly and playful instrument. Instructional workshops, jam sessions, open mic and evening performances, complemented by "...fresh, local, and gourmet cuisine prepared by the volunteers in Caspar's kitchen." This is an "All Ages, All levels of interest and expertise" event. The day's activities start at 10AM and will finish by 10PM at Caspar Community Center.

Beginning at 10AM, four ukulele instruction workshops - beginning, intermediate and advanced levels - will be taught by Dennis Hudson, Denver Tuttle and Mike DaSilva. After the lunch break there will be informal jam sessions of small break-out groups followed by an open mic at 4PM. Evening performances will start at 7PM, with Sarah Wagner, Hui Arago, The Ukeholics and special guests.

After a 1-hour lesson with a native Hawaiian, Sarah Wagner fell in love with the sweet sound of a ukulele. She enjoys playing covers of every genre of music and has begun to write her own. Sarah, a veteran of operas and musical theatre
is a physical therapist and the manager of the Rehabilitation Services Dept. at Coast Hospital.

Members of Hui Arago are - lead `ukulele player Dennis Hudson. He has been playing `ukulele over 20 years, and has studied under Hawaiian `ukulele master Herb Ohta. Marybeth Arago is the lead singer. Her lovely voice is joined by Michael's on harmony vocals. She also plays rhythm `ukulele. On Hawaiian slack key guitar (ki hö`alu), Michael Arago was heavily Influenced by the only music his Hawai`i-born mother played while he was growing up. He also hosts a Hawaiian music show on KZYX&Z,  "Nä Mele O Hawai`i."

The Ukeholics from Anderson Valley have been playing together since 2002. They played to a full house at the Mendocino Hotel last fall. All ukulele players with various theatrical backgrounds, they play a wide variety of music, incorporating their voices to present familiar and oddball songs, this is "not just another boy band". Be prepared for some hilarity.

Ticket prices are $30 All event pass, $20 Instruction only, $15 evening performances only. All afternoon activities are free of charge. Tickets will be on sale at BrownPaperTickets.com and by phone at 707 937-1732.
